Statement of Faith

We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of the New Jerusalem Churches of Sound Doctrine (NJCSD) as a local Body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to NJCSD members and the community, it is imperative that all members, persons employed by NJCSD in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers/non-members, agree to and abide by this Statement of Faith and all policies of NJCSD (Matthew 5:16; Philippians 2:14-16; 1 Thessalonians 5:22).

We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. We believe that God created the male and the female as separate genders; therefore, we do not believe in sexual reassignment. We believe that these two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God, (Genesis 1:26-27) and that rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.

We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. (Genesis 2:18-25) We do not recognize same sex marriage.  We do not condone open marriage behavior or any behavior contrary to the respected and agreed covenant definition of marital behavior as adopted by the New Jerusalem Churches of Sound Doctrine.

We believe that any form of sexual immorality [i.e., adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bisexuality, bestiality, transgenderism (including transsexuality and transvestitism), incest, polygamy, polyamory, pornography, etc.] is sinful and offensive to God. (Matthew 15:18-20; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and Jesus Christ is our Lord and Redeemer. (Matthew 16:15-16)

We believe in the Holy Ghost as the power and presence of God ever working in men to lift them to higher dimensions of living.  (Acts 1:8)

We believe that man is created in the image of God, but through the influence of Satan, is born unto sin; we believe that with God’s help, man must choose whom he will serve and how he will live. (Genesis 1:27; Joshua 24:15; Deuteronomy 30:19-20)

We believe in the gifts and operations of the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 12)

We believe in baptism by immersion as an outward expression of our confession for Christ. (Acts 2:38)

We believe in justification—forgiven, righteous, worthy—by faith in Jesus’ sacrifice on Calvary.  (Romans 5:1)

We believe in sanctification—being set apart from sin. (2 Timothy 2:21)

We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, and that all scripture is given by the inspiration of God—profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness.
(2 Timothy 3:16)

We believe in the Church as the people of Christ, the community of faith, wherein the Christian life is called into being, and nurtured.  (Acts 2:44-47)

We believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and that by taking of the sacrament of Holy Communion, we recognize 1) the sacrifice made by Jesus on Calvary necessary to redeem mankind unto Himself, and 2) that Believers do show forth His death until He comes. (Matthew 26:26;   1 Corinthians 11:24)

We believe in the soon return of Jesus Christ, and that we shall be caught up to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord. (1 Thessalonians 4:17)

Our Statement of Faith does not exhaust the full extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For the purposes of the New Jerusalem Churches of Sound Doctrine’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our Pastor and Founder is NJCSD’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
